Positive Behaviour Support for Teens: Respectful, Empowering, Effective

Adolescence can be a time of significant emotional, social, and behavioural change. At Liberty Behavioural Services, our Teen Behavioural Support is designed specifically for young people aged 13 and up who are experiencing behavioural challenges that impact their wellbeing, relationships, or everyday functioning. We use Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) to address these challenges with a non-judgemental, practical, and person-centred approach.

Whether your teenager is struggling with emotional regulation, oppositional behaviour, anxiety, aggression, school refusal, or difficulties with social interaction, our experienced Behaviour Support Practitioners work to understand the “why” behind the behaviour so we can help your teen feel seen, heard, and supported.

What Makes Our Approach Different?

Our support for teens is grounded in dignity, respect, and evidence. Using Positive Behaviour Support principles, we work with each young person to identify meaningful goals and develop individualised behaviour support plans that are strengths-based and future-focused.

We offer:
  • Functional behaviour assessments to explore the root causes of behaviours of concern
  • Collaborative, goal-oriented behaviour support plans tailored to the teen’s environment
  • Skill-building strategies in areas such as communication, emotional regulation, self-management, and social interaction
  • Practical coaching and support for parents, carers, and educators
  • A trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming approach that respects each teen’s unique perspective

Helping Teens Navigate Life’s Challenges

The teenage years can bring pressures related to identity, peer relationships, family expectations, school demands, and increased independence. These pressures can sometimes manifest as behavioural difficulties or emotional distress. Our role is to support teens and their support networks to manage these challenges in a safe, constructive way.

We empower teens by helping them:

  • Understand and express their emotions
  • Improve communication and problem-solving skills
  • Develop confidence and autonomy
  • Strengthen their relationships with family, peers, and teachers
  • Build routines and coping mechanisms that support their goals

We Work With the Whole Support System

We know that consistent, collaborative support leads to better outcomes. That’s why we partner with:

  • Parents and guardians
  • School staff and learning support teams
  • Allied health professionals
  • NDIS support coordinators and case workers

By working together, we can create supportive environments at home, at school, and in the community where teens can feel safe and thrive.
