Positive Behaviour Support for Adults: Empowering Independence and Wellbeing

At Liberty Behavioural Services, we provide compassionate and practical Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) for adults aged 18 and over. Whether you’re seeking support for yourself, a family member, or someone in your care, our approach is centred around dignity, respect, and meaningful outcomes.

Challenging behaviours can impact everyday life; at home, at work, in relationships, and in the community. These behaviours often stem from unmet needs, communication difficulties, or environments that aren’t meeting the person’s goals. Our role is to understand these underlying causes and build sustainable, supportive strategies that lead to lasting, positive change.

What We Offer

We work with adults across a wide range of abilities, diagnoses, and support needs, including individuals with intellectual disability, autism, psychosocial disability, and complex support requirements. Our Behaviour Support Practitioners take the time to understand each individual’s values, preferences, and goals. We always include the person and their support network in every step of the process.

Our adult behavioural support services include:
  • Comprehensive functional behaviour assessments
Development of individualised, strengths-based behaviour support plans
  • Support strategies that increase independence, self-regulation, and quality of life
  • Training and coaching for family members, support workers, and care teams
  • Plans that are fully aligned with NDIS Practice
  • Standards and focused on reducing or eliminating restrictive practices

Respectful Support for Real-Life Challenges

Challenging behaviours may look different in adulthood, whether it’s withdrawal, aggression, property damage, self-injury, or difficulties in social or vocational settings. Nevertheless, the need for understanding and compassionate intervention remains the same. We help adults and their teams work through these challenges with strategies that build capability, reduce distress, and support long-term wellbeing.
Our PBS approach for adults focuses on:

  • Enhancing communication and interpersonal skills
  • Promoting emotional regulation and resilience
  • Encouraging autonomy, participation, and community inclusion
  • Supporting transitions and change (such as moving into independent living or employment)

Collaboration is at the Heart of What We Do

We partner with everyone involved in the person’s life to ensure consistent, coordinated support. This includes:

  • Family members and informal supports
  • Support workers and disability service providers
  • Allied health professionals and therapists
  • NDIS coordinators and case managers

Together, we work to create safe, enabling environments where adults can thrive and build the lives they want.
